A new report reveals former “Today” host Matt Lauer’s future plans after losing his job at NBC due to allegations of sexual harassment.
After his dismissal, Lauer issued a statement showing his “sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions.” He pointed out that “repairing the damage” he caused “is now my full-time job.”
Lauer does not want to continue to live in the public eye, instead, he wants to “disappear” and become a “regular” person.
“Matt has no intention in returning to public life. … He plans to disappear and play golf,” a source said. “He wants to be a regular Joe. To play golf and stay in the Hamptons.”
“He has no intention of mounting a Billy Bush-style comeback campaign. He is going to stick to his one statement and not address the allegations further.”
The source was talking about Bush, a former “Today” host who was dismissed from the network too, after the October 2016 the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape was released. The tape from 2005, showed Trump making inappropriate comments about women and Bush encouraging him.
Since his firing, Bush started a “redemption tour,” and also wrote an op-ed for The New York Times regarding the “Access Hollywood” tape, and appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show.
But Lauer allegedly doesn’t plan such comeback.
“I wouldn’t make a 20-year promise … but he wants to focus on his family,” another source said.
Lauer and Annette Roque, his wife, are living together in the Hamptons, but it has been rumored that the Dutch model is really unhappy.
“She’s back in the Hamptons to take care of the kids,” a source said. “This has taken a huge toll. She’s painfully thin. People at her kids’ school are concerned.”
“They’re taking it day by day right now,” another source said. “His focus is on his family.”
Henri, Roque’s father, said that the two of them won’t be together for long.
“I have no words for her husband. What he has done is bad. Everybody feels betrayed,” he stated. “She is not going to stay with him and work it out. They are not together trying to work it out.”
Roque stated that he feels “betrayed” by Lauer’s alleged behavior.
“I feel s—- about the whole thing. The situation is so bad. I have met Matt, he was a nice guy. I feel kind of betrayed. It’s my own daughter. I don’t know how the kids are doing,” he said.
