These couple of weeks the attention was focused on the shocking release of Kate Steinle’s killer in San Francisco, but another hearing was held in Portland, Oregon, where an illegal immigrant was found guilty of the charges he was facing.
An illegal Mexican with a criminal history and multiple prior deportations named Sergio Jose Martinez received 35 years in prison after his guilty plea to series of charges for assault, kidnapping, burglary, sodomy, rape, and sexual abuse.
He was completely defiant and presented no regret during his sentencing, he even was seen smiling and smirking throughout the hearing. The brother of one of the victims said: “Sergio, no sentencing is enough. I rather you rot in hell.”
As Martinez was exiting the court, he said to the family, “See all you guys in hell.”

Martinez, 31, was sentenced for violently assaulting two women in two different occasions on July 24.
The first victim was a 65-year-old woman, Martinez entered her home raped her, assaulted her and before he left he stole her purse, cell phone, and car.
The woman managed to call the police from her neighbor’s phone after Martinez left. The police then tracked the stolen phone and found her car.
Meanwhile, Martinez was able to attack another woman in a parking garage. Though Martinez had a knife, the woman started defending herself and drew the attention of some bystanders, which led to Martinez running away, but sadly for him, the police caught him shortly after.
Martinez had a criminal record dating back to 2003, he had multiple arrests and have served prison time in California and Oregon over the years.
Martinez was deported around 20 times, but only got five probation violations for unauthorized re-entry into the country.
His latest deportation was in November 2016, and it’s unknown when he re-entered the U.S. again.
His criminal record included prior convictions for theft, battery, burglary and obstructing a police officer, and he was also frequently abusing methamphetamine.
The Multnomah County Sheriff failed his role, by releasing Martinez from custody, therefore, allowing these crimes to happen.
“He was released consistent with the orders of the court. No federal or state criminal warrants were present at the time he left our custody,” stated Sheriff Michael Reese, even as he admitted that Martinez “returned to commit additional crimes” after having been previously deported.
“It would help our community to understand how he was held accountable by federal authorities for multiple, illegal re-entries,” Reese added.
Maybe if the Sheriff didn’t release him and waited for the ICE to came and pick him up, he definitely wouldn’t have the chance to attack those innocent women.
